Adventures on Slàinte Mhath

Day 5: July 23: We woke to another beautiful day. The volunteers at the Waterford Harbor Visitors' Center at  One Tugboat Alley alerted us to the fact that there was a farmers' market right down on the dock every Sunday from 9 to 1. Always looking for some fresh veggies we stayed around to check it out. I'm happy we did as I purchased some fresh golden beets, green beans and tomatoes. I also taste tested some local beer from Bye-i Brewing, based in Cohoes, NY. After sampling a few, I chose a 4 pack of "Not Your Breakfast Juice" double IPA. I may have to skip the bananas and yogurt for the next few mornings. 😉 Before we got underway we filled the water tanks and pumped out at the do it yourself pump out for $2.00! We are so fortunate to have an expert at poop pumping onboard! Day 4: July 21: After a peaceful night at the Houghtailing anchorage on the Schodack Creek, we woke up to a cloudy, drizzly morning. After yesterday's extremely calm weather the slight breeze blowing in the am felt like a hurricane (just kidding). We were in no rush to get UW, waiting for the weather to clear a bit before heading through Troy Federal Lock 1 and to our destination in Waterford. At 10 a.m we got UW. Given that we had a slight breeze and the river wasn't flat ass calm (LOL) I of course kept my eye on the mast with every little wake even though John didn't have a care in the world. After 43 years you would think I would trust his judgement. We had an uneventful trip, passing beautiful scenery, marinas and some industry up through Albany. Day 2: July 19: What a peaceful night in this little cove on Haverstraw Bay. John and I debated over what the name of it is. I of course think I'm right that it is Croton on the Hudson because my snapped pictures identify it as such.  Regardless, it was delightful!  Here are a couple of pictures taken last night as we relaxed after a swim and dinner. We were in no hurry to get UW today as we only planned on traveling about 28 miles to New Hamburg, a small hamlet located on the southern corner of Poughkeepsie. Cruising the Hudson is unlike traveling on Buzzard's Bay or RI Sound. I'm sure it can get a bit rocky depending on the wind and tide but today we floated along on calm waters. We noted how grateful we are for being able to take this trip and lumber along like we were on a riverboat cruise surrounded by the Catskills and Hudson Highlands.
